Zane Barhart / Hillsdale College / Jr. / Pitcher / Medina, Ohio
Zane Barnhart made his first-career start for the Chargers in a series against Trevecca Nazarene. Barnhart led Hillsdale to its lone victory over the weekend as he struck out seven batters and walked only three. He gave up only four hits and one earned run in six innings on the mound.

Jeremiah Cangelosi / Ashland University / So. / Shortstop / Pataskala, Ohio
Cangelosi helped the Eagles win three conference games over the weekend in a series against Findlay. The Pataskala, Ohio native was 8-for-15 from the plate and scored five runs for Ashland. Cangelosi’s eight hits included 10 RBIs, two home runs, and a double.

Josh Tucker / Kentucky Wesleyan College/ So. / Pitcher / Paducah, Ky.
Kentucky Wesleyan’s Josh Tucker allowed just one run and five hits in the Panther’s home opener against Lake Erie. Tucker struck out 12 batters and recorded no walks on the mound as he was credited with a 3-1 win.

Nate Brooks / University of Findlay / Sr. / Second Base / Avon, Ohio
Nate Brooks earned the South Division Player of the Week as he went 9-17 from the plate for a .529 hitting percentage. Brooks’ seven hits included one double, one triple, and four RBIs. He scored four runs on the day and stole two bases.
Men’s Golf
Evan Johnson / Northwood University / So. / Grosse Ile, Mich.
Evan Johnson is the first Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week for the 2023 spring season. Johnson was the highest Great Midwest individual finisher at the SVSU Spring Invitational as he tied for second out of 124 golfers. He shot nine birdies in 36 holes, which was the second-most out of any player at the tournament. Johnson finished the tournament with a score of 143 (72-71).
Women’s Golf
Gabby Woods / University of Findlay/ Jr. /Sabina, Ohio
Findlay’s Gabby Woods was a medalist at the Bobby Nichols Invite among a field of Division I golfers. Woods won with a score of 214 (+1), which ranks as fourth in program history. She set a school record and tied the Great Midwest record in round two with a score of 66(-5).

Phillip Bell / Malone University / Jr. / Goalkeeper / Powder Spring, Ga.
Malone’s Phillip Bell has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Bell totaled 40 saves in just two games for the Pioneers and posted a .635 save percentage for the week.
Offensive
Zac Smargiasso / Malone University / Fr. / Midfield / Copley, Ohio
Freshman Zac Smargiasso joins Bell as the Offensive Player of the Week. Smargiasso scored eight goals and dished out seven assists as the Pioneers went 1-1 on the week.

Jenay Rennie / Tiffin University / Jr. / Goalkeeper / New Westminster, B.C., Canada
Jenay Rennie tabbed her fourth win in goal against Madonna University with 10 saves in 60 minutes of play. Rennie ranks fourth in the conference in saves per game at 10.88 with a save percentage of .429 through eight games.
Offensive
Isabella Kelty / Walsh University / Jr. / Attack / Canfield, Ohio
Isabella Kelty led the Cavaliers to two victories on the week. In a 17-8 win over McKendree, Kelty scored two goals and had five assists. Against Notre Dame College, she tabbed two goals and four assists. Kelty currently ranks first in the conference in assists at 2.86 per contest and points at 4.29.
Softball Pitcher
Erin Kapteyn / Hillsdale College / Jr. / Pitcher / Delton, Mich.
Hillsdale’s Erin Kapteyn recorded a 2-0 record in four appearances for the Chargers. She pitched a complete game shutout in both starts. Against Molloy, Kapteyn pitched one strikeout and gave up only three hits. In a win against Bloomington, she struck out four batters, walked two, and gave up five hits. Through 18 total innings-pitched, Kapteyn registered an ERA of 1.00 and totaled seven strikeouts and four walks.
Softball Player
Maci Head / Tiffin University / So. / Third Base / Alexandria, Ohio
Maci Head earned Great Midwest Softball Player of the Week after posting a .500 batting average on the week. Head’s three hits included two RBIs, one double, and a solo homer that secured Tiffin’s victory over Ferris State.
STUNT
Lily Boldman / Ashland University / Jr. / Tumbler / Huron, Ohio.
Lily Boldman led the Eagles to two victories against Olivet and Hiram. She scored 33 points against Olivet and recorded team-high 53 points vs. Hiram.
Men’s Tennis
Matt Telford / Tiffin University / Sr. / Durham, U.K.
Telford went 4-0 for the week with singles wins over GVSU (5-7, 7-5, 6-2) and Northwood (6-1,6-3). He also recorded doubles wins of 6-3 and 6-2.
Women’s Tennis
Jessica Peace / Tiffin University / So. /Bristol U.K.
Jessica Peace went 4-0 for the week with #3 singles victories over GVSU (6-0,7-5) and Northwood (6-0, 6-2). Peace tabbed #3 doubles wins 6-4 and 6-2.
