ASHLAND,Ohio- Ashland Women’s Basketball team secured the Midwest Regional title Monday evening after defeating Grand Valley State in a thrilling 61-58 victory.
The Eagles (34-0), were the top seed and host as they earned a trip to the Elite Eight in St. Joseph’s, MO. Ashland defeated Malone and Trevecca Nazarene prior to beating the Lakers in the regional championship.
The battle Monday night featured 10 lead changes, with the Eagles leading a majority of the night (71.8%). Despite being down at the half, Ashland came out hot in the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 22-9. Ashland owned a nine point lead before Grand Valley battled back with a four point scoring edge in the fourth.
Savaya Brockington led Ashland with 17 points, shooting 42.9% from the field. Annie Roshak added 14 and was 6-12 on the day. Hallie Heidemann and Maddie Maloney each added 10 points for the Eagles.
Teams advancing to the Elite Eight will be reseeded at the conclusion of all regional championships. Elite Eight games are scheduled to begin March 20.
