INDIANAPOLIS—The Undefeated Ashland Eagles were voted the No. 1 team in Division II, released Tuesday afternoon by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The Eagles sit at a perfect record of 25-0 and lead the conference and nation in several statistical categories.
Ashland is the third-highest scoring offense in the country at 86.7 points per game. As a team, they are shooting the ball at a 53.74%. The Eagles have also registered the best assist/turnover ratio at 1.40 with 20.6 assists per game. On average, Ashland is beating opponents by 28.4 points per game, the highest scoring margin in the country.
Head coach Kari Pickens has several players leading the nation on an individual level. Annie Roshak has the best field goal percentage in Division II at a 70.05% per contest. Teammate Hayley Smith is not far behind at No. 4 with a 64.59%.
Hallie Heidemann and Maddie Maloney also find themselves in the Top 10 of individual leaders. Heidemann has the third-best three-point percentage at 48.89%. The senior guard has 66 made-threes on the year as Ashland averages 10.9 made threes per game. Maloney ranks ninth in assist/turnover ration at 2.96.
The Eagles will look to remain perfect as they wrap up the regular season with three conference games remaining.
