INDIANAPOLIS--The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for February  13, 2023 are based on student-athlete performance from February 6, 2023-February 12, 2023.
 
Men’s Basketball
Peter Kalthoff / Hillsdale College / Sr. / Forward / Hillsdale, Mich.
For the third time this season, Hillsdale’s Peter Kalthoff has been named the Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week. Through two games, Kalthoff averaged a double-double and helped the Chargers clinch a spot in the Great Midwest Tournament. In a win over Walsh, he poured in 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He had 13 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-64 victory over Lake Erie. Kalthoff ranks fifth in the league in rebounds per game at 7.0.
 
Women’s Basketball
Sydney Mills / Hillsdale College / Sr. / Forward / DeWitt, Mich.
The leading rebounder in the Great Midwest registered two double-doubles over the week and helped Hillsdale secure a win against Lake Erie. She totaled 21 points and 15 rebounds against the Storm. Against Walsh, Mills scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. On the week, she shot 54.1% from the field, while averaging 18 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.
 
Men’s Indoor Field
Gabe Miller / Walsh University / Sr. / Throws / Alexandria, Ohio
The Alexandria, Ohio native set a new school record at Tiffin on Saturday in the weight throw. Miller Now ranks No. 2 at the Division II level, as he surpassed the 20m mark in three of his throws. He threw 20.15m in the second round, 20.57m in the third, and 20.90m in round 6.
 
Men’s Indoor Track
Malachi Adams / Tiffin University / So. / Sprints / Evanston, Ill.
Malachi Adams helped the Dragons earn a first-place finish at their home meet over the weekend. He registered a 60-meter dash time of 6.66, which now ranks second in the national rankings.
 
Women’s Indoor Field
Averi Parker / Hillsdale College / So. / Throws / Young America, IN.
Parker recorded her personal best throw in the shot put at the Tiffin Open. The sophomore registered a throw of 14.98 meters, a provisional qualifying mark and the sixth-best throw in Division II this season.

Savannah Ackley / Cedarville University / So. / Distance / Hart, Mich.
The Great Midwest Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year had a successful weekend at the GVSU Big Meet. She shattered the school record in the 5K with a time of 16:42.97. Ackley’s time met NCAA D2 Provisional and ranks as the 12th-best time this season. The Hart, Michigan native was also a member of the DMR, which also registered a provisional-qualifying time of 11:56.71.
 
Men’s Lacrosse - Defensive
Noah Beckett / Lake Erie College / Fr. / Goalkeeper / Victoria, British Columbia
Lake Erie’s Noach Beckett made his college-debut over the weekend against Lewis University. He tallied 17 saves through 60 minutes of play.
 
Men’s Lacrosse - Offensive
Myles Hamm / Mercyhurst University / Sr. / Attack / Calgary, Alberta
The Senior attack scored five goals to help lead the Lakers to a victory over No. 6 ranked Wingate. Hamm also had three ground balls in the team’s first win of the season. Three of Hamm’s goals came in the third period to help the Lakers go on a run and secure the victory.
 
STUNT
Alyssa McLaughlin / Ashland University / So. / Flyer / Kenton, Ohio
Ashland’s Alyssa McLaughlin helped the Eagles open up the season with two wins against Ursuline and Tiffin. McLaughlin registered 27 points as a flyer/tumbler in a 17-1 win over Ursuline. She was also the high-scorer against Tiffin with 47 points. Over the weekend, she averaged 37 points through two contests.
 
Men’s Tennis
Sean Barstow / Hillsdale College / Jr. / Las Vegas
Sean Barstow posted a .500 record over the weekend in matches against Lewis and Ferris State. Barstow won a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles and a straight set match at No. 5 singles. He was just one of two Chargers to force a third set tiebreak against Ferris State before falling 11-9 in the final set.
 
Women’s Tennis
Canela Luna / Hillsdale College / Sr. / Rocklin, CA
Canela Luna won three of four matches, including both single matches over the week. She scored both points for Hillsdale against Ferris State, with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles and a 6-2,7-5 win at No. 3 singles. Against Lewis, Luna picked up a 6-3 and 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
 
Wrestling
Daniel Beemer/ Ashland University / Jr. / 184 Lbs. / Ottawa, Ohio
The No. 5-ranked grappler in Division II at 184 lbs. tallied three more wins over the weekend. Beemer won via pin in 4:03, 2:01, and 1:39 against opponents from Notre Dame College and Baldwin Wallace. This is the third time Beemer has been named Athlete of the Week.
