INDIANAPOLIS--The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for January  9, 2023 are based on student-athlete performance from January 2, 2023-January 8, 2023.
 
Men’s Basketball
Jacob Drees / Cedarville University / Sr. / Guard / St. Paul, Minn.
Cedarville’s Jacob Drees was named the Great Midwest Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week after helping the Yellow Jackets improve to 11-4. In the past five games, Drees finished with at least a double-double. Against Ashland, he tabbed 14 points, 13 rebounds, four blocked shots, and four steals. In a win over Findlay, the St. Paul native recorded his first-career triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. Drees currently leads the Great Midwest in rebounds at 9.0 per game.
 
Women’s Basketball
Emma Palmer / Trevecca Nazarene University/ Jr. / Forward / Mount Juliet, Tenn.
Trevecca recorded two conference wins this past week as Emma Palmer averaged a double-double through both games. On the week, Palmer averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds, and was 17-25 from the field. Against Lake Erie, she poured in 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. In a win over Walsh, the 6-2 forward registered a career-high 24 points, season-high 14 rebounds, and two blocked shots. In the Great Midwest, Palmer has the third-highest field goal percentage at 63.3% and ranks fifth in rebounding with 7.3 per game.
 
Wrestling
Dalen Kimble / Kentucky Wesleyan College / Fr. / 149 lbs. / Ashland City, Tenn.
Dalen Kimble won three matches over the weekend to earn a first-place finish in the 149 lbs. division. He recorded wins over Lincoln Memorial (17-5, via major decision, Lyons (3:55 via fall), and Allen (5-4, match decision). Kimble helped the Panthers finish first at the Hawk Classic Invitational.
