INDIANAPOLIS--The Great Midwest Athletes of the Week for September 19, 2022 are based on student-athlete performance from September 12, 2022-September 18, 2022.
Football
Defense: Sir'Zion Dance / Tiffin University / Sr. / Linebacker / Indianapolis, IN
For the second-consecutive week, the Senior Linebacker has been named the Great Midwest Football Defensive Athlete of the Week. Dance registered 11 tackles, including six solo tackles, a half a sack, and 1.5 tackles for loss. He currently sits at sixth in the conference in tackles at 26 on the year, averaging 8.7 per game.
Offense: Jeremy Hunt / University of Findlay / Sr. / Quarterback / Oak Park, IL
Hunt led the Oilers to a 52-35 victory over Southwest Baptist in their first win of the season. He was 16-25 on the day for 232 yards and accounted for four touchdowns. The senior sits at fourth in the conference in passing at 198.3 yards per game and has thrown only one interception this year.
Special Teams: Isaac Roop / Ohio Dominican University / Fr. / Punter / Ashland, OH
The Ashland, Ohio native recorded seven punts in a win over William Jewel. Roop averaged 44.9 yards per punt with his longest punt at 76 yards.
Men’s Cross Country
Zach Kreft / Walsh University / Gr. / Sunbury, OH
The graduate student took home first place at the All-Ohio Championship. Kreft broke the course 8K record with a time of 24:03 as he helped the Cavaliers earn a first place finish.
Women’s Cross Country
Alayna Ackley / Cedarville University / Sr. / Hart, MI
Alayna Ackley helped the Yellowjackets earn a first place finish in their home meet this past Friday. She recorded a 17:38.9 time in the 5K to place first overall out of 334 runners.
Men’s Golf
Mitchell Brassard / Tiffin University / Fr. / Innisfil, Ontario
The Freshman had a record-breaking performance at the Glenmoor Fall Classic, where the Dragons placed first out of 16 teams. Brassard shot a 54-hole score of 212 to finish 5
th overall. He helped Tiffin set a new team 54-hole record.
Women’s Golf
Sydney Devore / Ohio Dominican University / Fr. / New Philadelphia, OH
Devore earned Co-Medalist honors at the Charleston Golden Eagle Invitational. She scored 147 (72-75) in the 36-hole event as the Panthers won their first match of the season.
Men’s Soccer
Defense: Charlie Walker / Walsh University / Goalkeeper / Fr. / Whitstable, United Kingdom
Walker was named the Great Midwest Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week. He totaled 10 saves on the weekend including seven against Findlay. Walker ranks second in the G-MAC in shutouts per game at three on the year and in goals against average at .615
Offense: Khalif Hassan / Ohio Dominican University / Forward / Senior / Columbus, OH
Hassan tallied both Panther goals in a 2-2 draw against Northwood. He sits at 13
th in the conference in goals-scored at three on the year.
Women’s Soccer
Defense: Andrea Everett / Northwood University / Goalkeeper / Sr. / Hartland, MI
The Senior Goalkeeper helped lead the Timberwolves to two conference victories over Cedarville and Ohio Dominican. She claimed her first shutout of the season in a win over the Yellowjackets. Everett tabbed nine saves, putting her at 30 on the year with a .806 save percentage.
Offense: Carly Boyd /Northwood University / Midfield / Fr. / Oxford, MI
The Freshman midfielder had two goals and two assists to help the Timberwolves secure two conference wins. Both of her goals were scored against Cedarville in a 2-0 road win. Boyd also connected on two assists in a win over Ohio Dominican.
Volleyball
North Division
Defense: Megan Acs / Northwood University / Libero / Sr. / Hartland, MI
Megan Acs tallied career-high 31 digs in a comeback victory against Walsh. She also added 17 digs in a sweep over Malone, for 48 on the weekend and 6.0 per set. Additionally, the senior dished out 11 assists and had two aces. Acs ranks fourth in the G-MAC in digs per set at 4.55.
Offense: Journey Blevins / University of Findlay / Outside Hitter / So. / Richwood, OH
For the second-straight week, Journey Blevins has been named the North Division’s Offensive Athlete of the Week. She helped lead the Oilers to two victories as she recorded 30 kills at a .386 hitting percentage. Blevins also added 10 digs and three blocks for a total of 32 points scored.
South Division
Defense: Emilee McDonald / Trevecca Nazarene University / Setter / Jr. / Lebanon, TN
Emilee McDonald helped the Trojans improve to 10-4 this season. McDonald stuffed the stat sheet as she dished out 67 assists, had 23 digs, four blocks, nine kills, and one ace. She ranks fourth in the conference in assists at 9.04 per set.
Offense: Makenna Belcher / Ashland University / Outside Hitter / So. / Marengo, OH
The Sophomore recorded 25 kills at a .294 hitting percentage in three sweeps over Ursuline, Lake Erie, and Ohio Dominican. Belcher also added three assists, seven service aces, 20 digs, and two block assists.
