Lake Erie, last year's league champion, is the men's soccer league favorite in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Storm garnered 10 of 11 first-place votes in a poll of the league's head men's soccer coaches.

Lake Erie went 16-4-1 last season and won an NCAA Tournament match while leading the conference with 42 goals on the year. LEC also tied Cedarville by allowing just 1.00 goals per match. The lone first-place vote that didn't go to Lake Erie went to Cedarville, a team with a vast soccer history and split a pair of matches with LEC last year. CU (14-5-1 last year), returns conference shutouts co-leader Jared Zacharias in goal and all-region player Jonny Stephens.

Tiffin, Ohio Dominican and Ashland round out the top five of the poll. Findlay was voted sixth and returns Zach Lauron, the leading returning goal scorer in the conference. Walsh was picked seventh and first-year member Northwood was eighth.

The men's soccer regular season begins Thursday, Aug. 25 with seven matches. Conference play begins in earnest the second week of September and the 2022 Great Midwest Men's Soccer Championship is set to begin with quarterfinal action on Oct. 29. The conference champion will be crowned Nov. 5.
