Twelve standout student-athletes from eight different member institutions are this week's Great Midwest Athletic Conference athletes of the week for the period April 25-May 1.
Below is a recap of each award winner and a complete list of this week's honorees.
Baseball Player of the Week
Kyle Werries - Kentucky Wesleyan / Jr. / Chatham, Illinois
Werries led KWC to a sweep over Hillsdale by batting .375 (6-for-16) with 10 RBIs and six runs scored. We went 3-for-3 with seven RBIs in the third game of the weekend, a 14-1 Panthers win.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Perry Bewley - Ashland / Grad / Chardon, Ohio
Bewley recorded two saves and a win as AU went 4-0 over the weekend. He pitched 4.1 innings in his three appearances, striking out eight and not allowing an earned run.
Softball Player of the Week
Anna Bennett - Trevecca / Soph. / Lebanon, Tennessee
Bennett hit .647 (11-for-17) to lead TNU to a 6-0 week and reached base and scored in each of the six games. She hit three doubles and a home run to drive in seven and she scored nine times.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Joni Russell - Hillsdale / Fr. / Cable, Ohio
Russell was the catalyst to Hillsdale clinching the regular season title and No. 1 softball seed. Went 1-1 with a 2.63 ERA against the conference's other top teams, striking out 18 batters across two complete-game starts and a 3.1 inning relief appearance. She struck out 10 on Friday and then returned for a omplete game in a 10-2 victory over Findlay on Saturday. She then appeared in the thrilling comeback win in the season finale to give HC a chance to win it ultimately captured.
Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Mike Andersson - Wheeling / Soph. / Whitby, Ontario, Canada
Andersson had a record-tying day in a win over Alderson Broaddus, matching the school record with seven goals for the second time this season. Four of those seven goals came in the fourth quarter of the game as Wheeling rode that momentum to a 15-3 win.
Men's Lacrosse Defender of the Week
Dallin Isaacson - Wheeling / Sr. / Reno, Nevada
Isaacson allowed just three goals in his team's 15-3 win over Alderson Broaddus. He made five saves on eight shots as he earned his first win of the season on the way to the victory.
Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Allie Kasprzyk - Findlay / Sr. / East Aurora, New York
Kasprzyk totaled eight goals and seven assists to lead Findlay to a 2-0 week.
Women's Lacrosse Defender of the Week
Kendra Lindell - Findlay / Sr. / Palatine, Illinois
Lindell scored two goals and notably set the school record with 15 draw controls in UF's win over Lake Erie. She posted 24 draw controls for the week.
Men's Outdoor Track Running Athletes of the Week
4x100 Relay Team - Ashland
Three seniors - Aaron Banks, Channing Phillips and Keshun Jones - and sophomore Doniven Jackson put up a winning time of 39.65 to win the Ashland Alumni Open. It was the third-best 4x100 time in the nation this season.
Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Brent Fairbanks - Ashland / Grad / Austintown, Ohio
Fairbanks placed sixth in the men's hammer throw over the weekend with a toss of 61.82. He also registered a 45.87m discus throw, ranking 8th in the nation.
Women's Outdoor Track Running Athlete of the Week
Ines Macadam - Tiffin / Sr. / Entre Rios, Argentina
Macadam set a school record in the 1500m at the Ashland Alumni Open. Her time of 4:36.80 won the race by nearly three seconds.
Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Ndidiamaka Anaraodo - Walsh / Sr. / Columbus, Ohio
Anaraodo placed first in both the hammer throw and shot put at the Walsh Tune-up meet, with both marks meeting NCAA Provisional standards.
