Ursuline's Lynn Ulatowski Honored As Faculty Mentor Winner

Dr. Lynn Ulatowki of Ursuline College has won the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Faculty Mentor Award for her life-altering impact on student-athlete development on the UC campus. Each year the conference's student-athlete advisory committee honors one faculty member who has made a difference at the annual honors banquet in Ohio, which will be held Tuesday, May 24. 

“I am speechless, humbled, and proud to be recognized for this award,” Ulatowski said to the staff at Ursuline. “It’s encouraging, especially at the end of the year, to know the students appreciate the efforts of the faculty. I am motivated by making a difference in students’ lives. Thus, it’s extremely satisfying to know I’m making an impact.”

“We are so proud that Lynn has received the Faculty Mentor of the Year award. She continuously puts our students first and is available to help them in and out of the classroom,” Ursuline Director of Athletics Cindy McKnight said. "Lynn is a valuable and respected member of Ursuline’s faculty and we are grateful to have her as our Faculty Athletics Representative."

Dr. Ulatowski's expertise centers on nutrition for disease prevention and reduction. As a post-doctoral fellow, she researched Vitamin E transport in the central nervous system, which is relevant to Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis `and Down Syndrome.

Dr. Ulatowski earned her bachelor's in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Westminster College, and her master's in Nutrition and Ph.D. in Molecular Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University. At Case Western she received the Academic Excellence Award for her dissertation topic Regulation of Vitamin E and Tocopherol Transfer Protein. She has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers and served during the 2015-16 academic year as the American Society of Nutrition Science Policy Fellow.

The Great Midwest Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) annually votes one faculty member to be honored and recognized for his/her impact on the student-athlete body on their respective campus at the spring awards banquet. As the Great Midwest award winner at the conference level, the league winner will also be nominated at the national level for consideration for the NCAA Division II Dr. Dave Pariser Faculty Mentor of the Year honor.
