GAINESVILLE, Georgia - The Findlay Oilers are national champions. Findlay women's golf edged Limestone in the medal match play to claim the school's first national title in women's golf.
Findlay, the No. 8 seed in the national final, finished its unprecedented spring run with a 3-2 over Limestone. Jill Schmitmeyer (+8 strokes) and Kristina Kniesly (+5) each won their matches and in the fifth spot Erin Mulchahy finished the team win with a one-shot edge over her matchup.
Findlay's run started with a win in the NCAA regional and then an eighth-place finish in championship stroke play. Findlay then beat top seed Dallas Baptist 3-2 and No. 5 seed Barry 4-1 in match play. The win over Limestone clinched the title, which is the first in the 10-year history of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Findlay women's golf, under ninth-year head coach Dom Guarnieri didn't lose a single tournament all spring, except for placing eighth at the NCAA Championships stroke play.
