Great Midwest Athletic Conference basketball teams are found all over the national rankings as NCAA Division II basketball begins its national men's and women's tournaments.
Great Midwest women's champion Ashland (28-2), which won the regular season and tournament titles in its first season in the conference, is ranked 2nd in the country and will host a regional this weekend. The Eagles are the No. 1 seed in the Midwest and will take on No. 8 seed Ferris State. Conference runner-up Walsh (26-4) is ranked 18th in the country and is the No. 4 seed in the Midwest. WU will play No. 5 seed Southern Indiana in Ashland's Kates Gym, where it has played three times this season.
On the men's side, another Great Midwest champion is the top seed and regional host. Walsh (23-6) is ranked 20th nationally and is in pole position in the Midwest Region with a home game vs. eighth-seeded Davenport. Hillsdale (20-7), the regular season runner-up this season, is receiving votes in the national poll. HC is the No. 3 seed in the Midwest and will play No. 6 seed Cedarville in a rematch of the Great Midwest semifinal. Also, Findlay (19-10) is in the national bracket as the No. 7 seed in the Midwest, playing Ferris State at Walsh at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
