Nationally-recognized student-athletes and teams earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference indoor track & field honors after a standout season that put the conference on the national map.
Trevor Bassitt was voted the Great Midwest Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after earning the national track athlete of the year honor from the USTFCCCA. He scored 22.5 points at the national meet, won two individual national titles (400m and 60m hurdles) and anchored a national championship 4x400 relay team. Overall, he's a 10-time national champion and has own virtually every honor a track athlete can achieve.
Behind Bassitt and 10 other All-Great Midwest performers, Ashland was ranked among the nation's top teams during the indoor season. AU was ranked 7th in the last USTFCCCA poll, while Tiffin was ranked 24th.
Ashland's Brent Fairbanks earned Great Midwest Indoor Field Athlete of the Year in a season that saw him place first in the weight throw in five of his six meets. After placing second in the weight throw in the season opener in December, he didn't lose another meet for the rest of the season. His 22.73m throw earned him a national championship in addition to his conference championship. Chris Campbell of Findlay was voted the conference's freshman of the year after winning the long jump at the conference meet. Campbell's coach, Jared Krout, earned coach of the year honors for his work with both the Oiler men's and women's teams in his first season as head coach.
Walsh's Alexa Leppelmeier was voted Great Midwest Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning conference titles in the 3000m and mile. She was in the top eight in both of those events at the national meet. The Great Midwest women's teams also placed multiple squads in the national ranks. Hillsdale and Findlay appeared in the USTFCCCA poll at the end of the season. HC was powered by two special award winners, Nikita Maines (Women's Field Athlete of the Year) and Averi Parker (Women's Freshman of the Year).
