ASHLAND, Ohio - In the latest edition of the Ashland-Walsh women's basketball saga, the visiting and fourth-seeded Walsh Cavaliers outlasted conference champ and top seed Ashland 72-62. The top two women's basketball teams in the Great Midwest split four meetings this year, and Walsh will advance to play for a regional title.
Mayci Sales scored 20 points to lead Walsh (28-4). The Cavs locked down on the offensively efficient Eagles, holding Ashland to just 25 made field goals and 3-for-16 shooting from 3-point range. Great Midwest Player of the Year Sha Carter of Walsh scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds with Morgan McMillen scored 18.
Ashland, the season and conference tourney champion, ends its first season in the Great Midwest with a 29-3 record.
Walsh will play No. 2 seed Grand Valley State Monday night for a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight.
