While the women's championship quarterfinals were all chalk, Tuesday's men's quarterfinals saw a pair of road upsets. Cedarville won by double digits at Ashland and Findlay outlasted Malone, sending the lower seeds to Friday's semifinals at Walsh.
Walsh, the regular season champion and top seed, will host Friday's semis and Saturday's final. Walsh will play Findlay at 5:30 p.m. before #2 Hillsdale takes on Findlay. Saturday's title game is set for 2 p.m. at Walsh.
#6 Cedarville 70, #3 Ashland 55 - Box Score
ASHLAND, Ohio - Four Cedarville players scored between 16 and 11 points in a balanced attack and the visitors cruised to a 70-55 upset road win. Branden Maughmer led all scorers with 16 points, with Conner TenHove adding 13 and Kollin Van Horn scoring 12.
Cedarville controlled the game throughout, leading for more than 33 minutes of clock time and at one point growing its lead to 21 points. A 15-3 run by Cedarville in the second half keyed the win. CU also allowed just one offensive rebound all night and shot 19-for-22 at the foul line, including a 12-for-14 mark by Maughmer.
Cedarville will enter semifinal play having won four of five. Hillsdale won both meetings over CU during the season.
#5 Findlay 74, #4 Malone 66 - Box Score
CANTON, Ohio - Findlay got 24 points from Tre'Maine Gray and held off a late rally from Malone to advance with a 74-66 win. Deven Stover and Nathan Bruns each added 14 points, with Bruns grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds.
UF shot 58 percent on the night (62 percent in the second half) and led 35-26 at halftime. The Oilers led for more than 36 minutes of the contest and held a 65-52 lead with 4:33 to go before Malone made a rally. MU cut the lead to five on several occasions but Findlay made five of six foul shots to ice the game.
Findlay has also won four of its last five and played a double overtime thriller against Walsh on Feb. 15.
