Awards Round Up: Women's Soccer Post-Season Recap

INDIANAPOLIS—It was a successful year on the pitch for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer programs as teams and individuals celebrated post-season honors.
 
The Ashland University Eagles won their second straight Great Midwest Tournament title.
 
Cedarville was crowned regular season champions and was selected as the host-site for the 2022 championship.
 
Both Cedarville and Ashland earned bids to the NCAA Division II National Tournament before falling to the No. 6 seeded Ferris State Bulldogs. Ashland fell to Ferris State in the ninth shootout round, while Cedarville was defeated by a score of 3-1. Ashland ended their 2022 campaign with a 15-3-3 overall record and Cedarville tabbed an overall record of 17-4-1.
 
The United Soccer Coaches(USC) poll released their 2022 All-Region Teams following the conclusion of the regular season. A total of 22  student-athletes from either the Great Midwest, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), or Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), were named to the first or second team.
 
One standout was named to the first team while three more earned second-team status. The composition includes (4) forwards, (3) midfielders, (3) defenders, and (1) goalkeeper.
 
Named to the first team was Ashland’s Rylie Howman, who led a defense that gave up only 16 goals through 21 games. Howman also scored one goal on the year and was named the Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Ashland’s Goalkeeper Bri Rogers and Forward McKinley Mendenhall earned second-team honors. Rogers was a second-team all-conference choice with a goals against average of 0.75. Mendenhall recorded nine goals and 13 assists on the year for 31 points, earning her first-team all-conference honors.
 
Mary Kate Wyer joins Rogers and Mendenhall on second-team all-region. She recorded nine goals and three assists on the year.
 
In addition to the United Soccer Coaches, the Division II Conference Commissioners Association also released All-Midwest Region teams.
 
Rylie Howman adds to her post season honors as she was selected first-team all-midwest region. Howman is joined by Tiffin’s Kristen Dickison, Findlay’s Ellie Tischler, and Cedarville’s Megan McClish. Dickison was named the Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year after breaking several program records for season goals and points. Ellie Tischler led the Oilers in goals as she scored eight on the year, including two two-goal games. Megan McClish was one of four midfielders named to first-team. She ranked third on Cedarville in scoring with six goals on the year.
 
Four student-athletes from the Great Midwest were selected to the All-Midwest Region Second-Team. McKinley Mendenhall picked up her second post-season honor and is joined by teammate Bailey Clark. Both Mendenhall and Clark were selected as forwards.
 
Walsh’s Katie Corrigan and Cedarville’s Marisa Hoober round out Great Midwest athletes on second-team. Corrigan led the Cavaliers with 11 goals on the year for 23 points. Hoober started all 22 games for the Yellow Jackets and led a defense that posted seven shutouts this season.
 
Academic All-America Teams were released in recognition of student-athlete performance in the classroom.
 
Kristen Dickison was named First-Team All-Academic All-America. As a Graduate Student majoring in management, Dickison posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.
 
For the second consecutive year, Mary Kate Wyer (CU) was selected a second-team academic all-american. Wyer is a nursing major with a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

The 2022 Academic All-District honorees were also released, which recognizes student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
