INDIANAPOLIS--The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for December  12, 2022 are based on student-athlete performance from December 6, 2022-December 11, 2022.
 
Men’s Basketball
Nathan Bruns / University of Findlay / Sr. / Forward / Chickasaw, Ohio
Nathan Bruns led the Oilers to two victories on the week. He posted a stat line of 18.0 PPG, scoring 22 against Saginaw Valley State, and 14 against Tiffin. Bruns grabbed an average eight boards per game as well as three assists and two blocks. He ranks third in the Great Midwest in field goal percentage at .571 through nine games.
 
Women’s Basketball
Keeley Carter / Trevecca Nazarene University/ Jr. / Guard / Lafayette, Tenn.
Keeley Carter registered an impressive stat line for the Trojans with 17.5 PPG and 6.5 RPG. On the week, she shot a field goal percentage of .636 as she was 14-22 from the field and four-of-five from three-point range. Carter also added seven assists, one block, and a steal. Against Cedarville, Carter scored 19 as she shot seven-of-eight from the field. She led Trevecca to a win over Ursuline with 16 points and seven rebounds. In the Great Midwest, Carter ranks sixth in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game.
 
Men’s Indoor Field
Gabe Miller / Walsh University / Sr. / Throws / Alexandria, Ohio
Gabe Miller finished first in the Weight Throw at the Tiffin Open. He recorded a personal-best mark of 19.41 meters. Miller’s 19.41 meters currently ranks fifth at the Division II level.  
 
Men’s Indoor Track
Malachi Adams/ Tiffin University/ So. / Sprints / Evanston, Ill.
Adams hit a provisional mark in the 60m dash with a 6.69 time, the fastest current time at the Division II level. He also placed first in the 200m with a time of 22.25.
 
Women’s Indoor Field
Kelsey Hartsock / Walsh University / So. / Pole Vault / Warsaw, Ohio
Hartsock competed at the GVSU Holiday Open, where she earned a first-place finish in the Pole Vault. She hit an NCAA provisional mark at 4.10. In Division II, Hartsock is currently tied for first in Pole Vault.
 
Women’s Indoor Track
Kya Epps / Walsh University / Fr. / Sprints / Akron, Ohio
For the second consecutive week, Kya Epps has been named Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. Epps broke her own school record in the 200m dash with a 24.63 time, which is currently the fourth best time in D2. She also placed third in the 60m dash and broke program record with a 7.53 time.
 
Wrestling
Gavin Weaver/ Ashland University/ Jr. / 141 lbs. / Newcomerstown, Ohio
The 141-pound Junior was victorious in a 7-0 decision over the No. 9 ranked grappler Caleb Morris from University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Weaver used a first-period takedown and near-fall, as well as a riding-time point to record the upset.
