Eagles Win First Great Midwest Title

TIFFIN, Ohio -- Ashland captured its first ever Great Midwest Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Cedarville on a windy day in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Eagles used a big second half to seal with win over fifth seeded Cedarville. The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring with a Jake Johnson goal in the third minute. Cedarville would take that lead into the half. Playing with the wind to start the game, CU outshot Ashland 12-1 in the first half.

The second half proved to to be the difference maker. Ashland's equalizer came in the 53rd minute off an  Oliver Lovell corner kick that found Oliver Whaley for the score. Whaley would also score the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute off Vander Rocha assist.

2022 Great Midwet Goalkeeper of the Year Ty Bowden finished with six saves in the win, five of those coming in the first half.

Ashland will now recieve the automatic qualifyer for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament. The rest of the field will be revealed on the NCAA's Selection Show on Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET. Tiffin and Lake Erie were also part of of the final regional rankings published last week.
