Ashland Wins Second Straight Women's Soccer Title

11.5.22

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- For the second straight season, Ashland has captured the 2022 Great Midwest Women's Soccer Championship. The Eagles beat top-seeded Cedarville, 1-0, on its home turf to claim the title on Saturday evening.

The championship game was a rematch of the 2021 Great Midwest title game just with a different venue. It took just one goal from Merrick Mihalek in the 14th minute of Saturday's championship to seal the deal for the Eagles. The unassisted goal was Mihalek's first of the 2022 season.

2022 Great Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year Bri Rogers continued to show why she's been named to the honor the last two seasons. Rogers posted her third clean sheet in a row and her 11th on the season. The senior was credited with seven saves in the win.

Ashland will recieve the automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament. The rest of the field will wait for the NCAA Selection Show slated for Monday at 7 p.m. ET. Cedarville, Findlay and Northwood were all part of the final regional rankings released last week.
