INDIANAPOLIS--The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for November 14, 2022 are based on student-athlete performance from November 8, 2022-November 13, 2022.
 
Men’s Basketball
Elijah Hinton/ Malone University / So. / Center / Newark, Ohio
Hinton dominated for the Pioneers to open the 2022-23 season. He averaged 19 points per game and grabbed 12 rebounds through two games. The Sophomore also had 1.5 blocks per game as Malone secured two wins over the weekend.
 
Women’s Basketball
Morgan  McMillen / Walsh University / Gr. / Guard / New Philadelphia, Ohio
Morgan McMillen secured her 1000th career point in a win over Rockhurst. She poured in 25 points as well as 10 rebounds and two assists. Against Missouri S&T, McMillen shot .500 percent from the field as she totaled 21 points and grabbed six rebounds.
 
Football
Defense: Jeremiah Jackson / University of Findlay / Sr. / Defensive Back / Columbus, Ohio
The Columbus, Ohio native led the Oilers to an upset over Tiffin University. Jackson recorded five tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. He also had one forced fumble that led to a Findlay touchdown three plays later. Jackson had an 87-yard scoop and score fumble recovery to put the Oilers ahead 21-0 at the half.
 
Offense: Austin Brenner / Ashland University / Gr. / Quarterback/ Copley, Ohio
A dominant offensive performance from Austin Brenner helped the Eagles secure the Great Midwest regular season title. On the day, Brenner was 10-of-14 for 112 passing yards. He accounted for five of Ashland’s touchdowns and ran for 44 yards.
 
Special Teams: Austin Snyder/ University of Findlay/ So. / Kicker / Groveport, Ohio
The Special Teams Athlete of the Week is Findlay’s Austin Snyder. Snyder was 2/2 from field goal range, including ranges from 28 and 19 yards. Snyder’s 19-yard field goal was the game-winner in an upset over Tiffin.
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Daniel Garcia / University of Findlay / Jr. / Bucaramanga, Colombia
Daniel Garcia was victorious in four events over the weekend. He won three individual events including the 100-yard freestyle, 500-yard free, and 400-yard individual medley. Garcia was also a member of the first-place 200-yard medley relay squad.
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Abby Locke / Ashland University / Sr. / Springboro, Ohio
Locke recorded three individual wins on Saturday. In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Locke registered a time of 1:09.50 and a 2:16.31 time in the 200 backstroke. A 4:45.08 time in the individual medley also earned Locke her third first-place finish of the meet.
