ASHLAND, Ohio—The Hillsdale College Chargers won their sixth straight conference title Saturday (Nov. 12) evening. The Chargers defeated the No. 3 seed Trevecca Nazarene in Kates Gym at Ashland University.
Since 2017, Hillsdale has won six consecutive titles under head coach Chris Gravel. Gravel has built a dynasty with athletes like Karoline Shelton, who has been a part of five of the six championship teams. Shelton was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and was also selected First-Team All-Conference. In the championship match, Shelton recorded 11 kills on 21 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .455.
Alli Wiese, Marilyn Popplewell, and Maizie Brown were also tournament-standouts. Popplewell and Brown added 10 and seven kills, respectively. Wiese had a game-high 11 digs. The trio joins Shelton on the All-Tournament Team.
Hillsdale was coming off a semifinal victory on Friday night against Walsh University to earn the right to compete for a championship.
The Chargers earned the Great Midwest’s automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional. Hillsdale will find out their opponent on Sunday night following the NCAA Selection Show airing at 10:30 P.M. ET on NCAA.com.
