INDIANAPOLIS--The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for October 31st, 2022 are based on student-athlete performance from October 25, 2022 -October 30, 2022.
Football
Defense: Jackson Gillock/ Hillsdale College/ So. / Cornerback / Rockwall, Texas
Gillock recorded eight tackles and a team-high two pass breakups in the Chargers’ upset against the Ashland Eagles. He also returned a 17-yard interception for a touchdown to put Hillsdale up 29-20 in the fourth quarter.
Offense: Luke Keller / Hillsdale College/ Sr. / Quarterback / Zionsville, IN
Luke Keller led the Hillsdale Chargers to a victory of undefeated and nationally-ranked Ashland University. He was 16 of 20 for a total of 223 passing yards. Keller had one rushing touchdown on the day for 13 yards. In the Great Midwest, Keller ranks fourth in passing with 1,713 yards on the season.
Special Teams: Anthony Lowe/ Tiffin University / Jr. / Wide Receiver / Grove City, Ohio
Anthony Lowe helped the Dragons secure their fifth victory of the season. He posted 185 all-purpose yards which included a 77 yard kick return and a 34 yard punt return. Lowe was also an offensive force for Tiffin as he registered 60 receiving yards and a 14-yard rush.
Men’s Soccer
Defense: Tobias Rawson Paz / Tiffin University/ Sr. / Defender / La Pampa, Argentina
The Senior defenseman helped the Dragons secure the regular season title. Rawson Paz led a defense that allowed only one shot on goal against Northwood and two corner kicks. The victory over Northwood is the Dragon’s fifth consecutive shutout and 10
th of the season.
Offense: Teddy Baker / Lake Erie College / Fr. / Midfielder / Bawdsey, England
Teddy Baker scored three of Lake Erie’s four goals in their quarterfinal victory over Findlay. He currently leads the conference in goals with 14 on 33 shots on goal.
Women’s Soccer
Defense: Morgan Demagall / Ursuline College / Fr. / Goalkeeper / Aurora, Ohio
Demagall led the Arrows to a victory over Findlay. She registered a shutout with five saves on the day.
Offense: Katie Corrigan / Walsh University / Fr. / Defender / Cincinnati, Ohio
The Freshman connected on three goals in a win over Malone University. Corrigan also found the back of the net twice in the quarterfinal victory against Northwood. Currently, she ranks third in the Great Midwest in goals with 11 on the year.
Women’s Swimming
Megan Clifford / Hillsdale College / So. / Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Clifford had a record-breaking weekend for the Chargers as they were victorious over Albion 136-91. She won three events, including breaking the Albion pool record in the 200 butterfly. The Sophomore also took first in the 200 freestyle with a 1:58.41 time.
Men’s Swimming
Noah Budd / Malone University / Fr. / Green, Ohio
Noah Budd is this week's Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week. Budd registered two second-place finishes in the 200 yard Individual Medley as well as the 200 yard backstroke. His times of 2:10.80 and 2:09.30 were both collegiate bests. \
Volleyball
North Division
Defense: Linnea Larson / Hillsdale College / Sr. / Middle Hitter / Northfield, MN
The Middle Hitter posted 11 total blocks, including three solo and eight assisted. The strong defensive effort helped Hillsdale beat Findlay twice and clinch a share of the North Division title.
Offense: Karoline Shelton / Hillsdale College / Sr. / Outside Hitter / Shawnee, KS
Shelton averaged four kills per set with 32 total. She registered a .315 hitting percentage in Hillsdale’s two conference wins. Shelton finished with a team-best 36 digs for the weekend and posted double-doubles in both matches.
South Division
Defense: Kelsey Shoup / Ohio Dominican University / Jr. / Libero / Dalton, Ohio
Kelsey Shoup collected 54 digs at 5.4 per set for the Panthers. She also added five service aces and eight assists. The Junior had 35 digs against Tiffin, marking her career-high and the fifth-most digs in a match this season.
Offense: Ellie Buffler / Trevecca Nazarene University / Sr. / Outside Hitter / Nashville
Buffler registered 33 kills on the week for the Trojans. She also added 29 digs and three service aces with a .312 hitting percentage. The Senior had a double-double in Trevecca’s win over Kentucky Wesleyan with 19 kills and 21 digs.
October 2022 Bowler of the Month
Men
Jordan Norris/ Walsh University / Jr. / Canton, Ohio
Jordan Norris is the Great Midwest Men’s Bowling Athlete of the Month. He currently holds an average of 210 and finished in the top 25 in the OBC 1 tournament with an average of 217. Norris had a game high of 258 and set a school record for five and six game pin fall with 1,158 at the AHBA 1 tournament.
Women
Corynne Bean / Kentucky Wesleyan College / Jr. / Mascoutah, IL
Corynne Bean currently holds the highest average on the team at 189 over two tournaments. So far, she has registered a game-high of 244 for the month of October. Bean placed fourth out of 109 at the Valpo Bowling Classic with a 202.40 average.
