INDIANAPOLIS – The new page has turned into a different calendar year as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honors continued with Monday’s first announcement of 2022.
 
A handful of teams took the court over the holiday break with conference action resuming later this evening. The top of the standings is crowded with Hillsdale, Malone and Walsh, all at 4-1 in league play.
 
Cedarville and Ashland are next in line while two wins over break helped Kentucky Wesleyan pull to even .500 at 3-3 in conference games.

Penha averaged a double-double while posting 27 points and 10 rebounds per game on the week as the Trojans split a pair of conference  games with Kentucky Wesleyan College and Cedarville University.
 
The honor comes to Penha, an impact transfer from Taylor University, as he has reached second in the league in scoring (20.1 points per game) and tops the league with 10.1 rebounds per game.  
  
Penha scored 29 points in Trevecca’s win over Cedarville University and added 11 rebounds. Penha hit 11-15 (73%) from the field, buried his only three-point attempt, and sank six of seven at the charity stripe. The win breaks a nine-game losing streak for the Trojans against the Yellow Jackets. It is the seventh win in 23 all-time meetings.
 
For the week the junior from Pickerington, Ohio, shot 65.6% (21-32) from the field, 62.5% (5-8) from deep, and 78% (7-9) from the foul line. He had a total of four assists, a block, and two steals.
 
Against KWC, Penha added 25 points and nine rebounds.
 
Penha has five double-doubles on the year and has score in double figures in all but one game.
On seven occasions Penha has topped 20 points in a game. The Trojans return to action tonight hosting Ohio Dominican University at 7:30 PM.
