INDIANAPOLIS – Kentucky Wesleyan and Ashland were both selected for respective Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week honors to start the fall campaign.
Great Midwest teams played the first of two open weeks against non-conference competition, including some regional matchups that could play a factor down the road for postseason qualification.
Offensive Player of the Week
Chloe Hinchcliffe
Kentucky Wesleyan
Midfield
Sophomore
Owensboro, KY (Daviess Co. HS)
Through the first week of the regular season, Hinchcliffe is the league leader in just about everything from shots, shots on goal, goals, points and game-winning goals. She is tied for the league lead in assists with one.
Hinchcliffe and the Panther enjoyed a fine start with two wins over Southwest Baptist and Georgetown (Ky.).
The sophomore mid delivered the game winner in both contests. Early in the second half against Southwest Baptist, she scored in the 52nd minute for the game’s lone goal.
Her sister, Natalie, scored the game’s first goal against Georgetown. Chloe then scored twice in the second half, in the 47th minute and in the 69th minute on a penalty kick conversion.
Hinchcliffe fired a combined 11 shots with five on target.
Defensive Player of the Week
Bri Rogers
Ashland
Goalkeeper
Junior
Dublin, OH (Scioto HS/Franklin)
The Eagles acquitted themselves quite well as a new member of the Great Midwest, tying No. 4 preseason ranked McKendree and blanking Bloomsburg on the road.
Ashland has had a short window of time to get acclimated under new head coach Cayleb Paulino, but after being tabbed second in the preseason coaches poll only behind Findlay, expectations are still high for the Eagles.
Rogers capitalized on her opportunity in goal against Bloomsburg, making three saves in a shutout effort to give AU its first win of the fall.
She faced a total of nine shots from the Huskies, a program that went into the quarterfinal round of the 2019 NCAA Championship and won the Atlantic Regional with an 18-3-1 record.
