INDIANAPOLIS – The scheduling alliance between the Great Midwest Athletic conference and Great Lakes Valley Conference extends into Week 4 with heavy hitting action going on between all eight member institutions.
This week, it’s the Great Midwest’s turn to host after seven contests were played at GLVC stadiums in Week 3. Ashland had a bye and Missouri S&T was locked into a previous scheduling agreement with Wayne State from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Great Midwest had the upper hand in Week 3, going 4-3, with wins coming from Ohio Dominican, Findlay, Lake Erie and nationally ranked Tiffin.
The Dragons improved their standing in the AFCA Top 25 Poll, moving up to No. 12 following a 3-0 start. The Storm of Lake Erie continue to turn heads and after defeating McKendree on the road, also have a perfect 3-0 start to the season.
This week, Tiffin hosts a tough Truman State program and Lake Erie will be home for the first time this fall against Southwest Baptist, a team that surrendered over 60 points vs. Findlay.
The Oilers draw Lindenwood in what should be a high-scoring affair at Donnell Stadium. The Lions posted 56 points in the last game to go final in Week 3 while Findlay rolled up almost 600 yards of total offense in Missouri vs. SBU.
Tiffin turned to backup QB Miles Johnson to secure an upset win on the road and he engineered a game-winning drive against No. 15 UIndy last week as Player of the Year Nick Watson was injured.
Ashland returns to the field to host Quincy. Hillsdale’s homecoming celebration weekend includes a homestand against Missouri S&T. The Chargers scored 14 points in the fourth quarter against Truman State.
Ashland had one of the toughest assignments in the first two weeks of Division II while facing top 10 ranked opponents in Notre Dame (OH) and then Ferris State. The Eagles are bidding for their first win as a Great Midwest member this week against Quincy.
Ohio Dominican’s QB Evan Ernst was off to a hot start against William Jewell that led to player of the week honors and K/P Jed Quackenbush continues to put up potential single-season record breaking numbers.
The Panthers have a good one lined up against the Greyhounds of UIndy as Tiffin figured out the blueprint to defeat the GLVC’s best. Walsh will look to get back on the winning track against McKendree after falling against Quincy in Week 3.
Kentucky Wesleyan will look to bounce back and faces William Jewell at Steele Stadium. WR David Florence continues to be a big-time playmaker after hauling in seven catches for 125 yards and pair of touchdowns last week. He is the league’s leader in receiving yards and touchdowns at this point in the season.
