9.20.21

INDIANAPOLIS – Great Midwest Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week were officially announced on Monday afternoon following the first round of games in a scheduling alliance with the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Great Midwest had the slight upper hand in Week 3 over the GLVC, going 4-3 with Ashland on a bye. No. 15 ranked Tiffin remained unbeaten scored a marquee upset on the road against No. 12 UIndy while Lake Erie also maintained its perfect record now at 3-0 following win at McKendree. Ohio Dominican downed William Jewell and Findlay roughed up Southwest Baptist by hanging up 60+ points on the scoreboard.

All seven of the Great Midwest teams played on the road in Week 3.

Offensive Player of the Week
Evan Ernst
Ohio Dominican
Quarterback
Graduate Student
Mason, OH (Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller HS)

Ernst operated the offense with surgical precision to lead Panthers to back-to-back wins in the season as Ohio Dominican went to William Jewell and came away with a 35-25 victory in Liberty, Mo.

The reigning CoSIDA Football Academic All-America of the Year for 2020-21 completed 26 of his 40 pass attempts for 354 yards. He connected for three touchdowns, including a long of 75, as ODU improved to 2-1 this fall.

Ernst engineered scoring drives on four consecutive Ohio Dominican offensive possessions. His first play from scrimmage was a 75-yard scoring strike to James Morgan to spark a wildfire of a first quarter as the Panthers led 28-10 through the first 15 minutes.

He spread the wealth and completed at least one pass to nine different ODU receivers and also threw a touchdown to DeAndre Clark to close out the first quarter and Ty Wiley in the final seconds of the opening half.

With his Week 3 performance, the graduate student Ernst moved into the league lead among all conference QB’s in yards (797), passing yards per game (265.7) and completion percentage (66.1%)

Defensive Player of the Week
Latrell Robinson
Tiffin
Defensive Line
Senior
East Cleveland, OH (Shaw HS)

Robinson delivered a major blow as the Dragons scored a huge upset over No. 12 UIndy at Key Stadium on Satruday night.

The senior DE returned took the wind out of the Greyhounds’ sails with a third quarter interception pick six that brought Tiffin back to 17-13.

Robinson finished with four tackles and one of those stops were for a loss. Robinson and Tiffin grounded a productive Greyhounds’ run game to just a total net of 109 yards. The Dragons would later score the game winning touchdown in the fourth quarter from QB Miles Johnson to WR Anthony Lowe, his second TD of the night.

Robinson is one of a handful of conference players with one interception on the season and is the second returned for a score along with Walsh’s Preston Hodges. He now has been credited with eight total tackles on the year.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Jed Quackenbush
Ohio Dominican
Kicker/Punter
Graduate Student
Newark, OH (Newark HS)

Quackenbush punished William Jewell on special teams with another impressive effort that played a major role in helping Ohio Dominican to a road win.

The graduate averaged over 57 per yards on six booming punts while recording a long of 66 yards. All six of his booming attempts went over 50 yards and he had a pair of touchbacks while placing one inside the 20.

Quackenbush also was a perfect 5-for-5 on PAT’s and on kickoffs, landed four of his six tries for touchbacks.

This is Quackenbush’s second special teams weekly honor of the current season. He was also recognized following Week 1 during his effort against nationally ranked Shepherd.
