Official CoSIDA Announcement

INDIANAPOLIS
– The Great Midwest Athletic Conference had a pair of volleyball student-athletes on the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team.

The 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Great Midwest is part of District 4 for the academic categorization.

First-team Academic All-District honorees automatically advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.

Those honorees on the Academic All-American team will be announced in early July.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams are partially financially supported by the Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 All-America programs.

The on-court combination of Mertz, a setter, and Van Wienen, one of the league’s most prolific hitters, is no secret as they have connected for many scoring plays throughout their careers at Hillsdale.

Both are just as dynamic in the classroom setting as eight total selections to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team came from District 4 (Great Midwest, GLVC, GLIAC).

Mertz is a senior majoring in Economics and she has a 3.72 GPA and Van Wienen, also a senior, has posted a 3.54 GPA in Exercise Science.
