COLUMBUS - The Findlay Oilers were crowned Great Midwest Women’s Soccer Tournament Champions on Sunday afternoon at Panther Stadium.
The No. 1 seeded Oilers defeated the No. 3 seeded Cedarville Yellow Jackets by a final score of 2-1 to clinch the conference title for the first time since joining the league.
The road to the championship match for Findlay consisted of beating Tiffin (3-0) in the quarterfinals and defeating Walsh (2-1) in the semifinal round. Cedarville advanced to the championship with wins over Trevecca (2-1) and Malone (2-1).
Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Year, Olivia Frank, propelled the Oilers to the win with both goals on the afternoon. The junior tied the game in the 58th minute and scored the game winning goal in the 82nd minute. Freshman midfielder Hannah Rybicki assisted on both goals.
Kelti Wise, filling in for Kennedy Slovak due to injury, recorded the win in goal with two saves of six shots in the championship match. She also played 60 minutes of the semifinal match, adding four saves.
For Cedarville, Taylor Noll scored the lone goal of the afternoon, assisted by Mary Kate Wyer in the 16th minute of play.
The Oilers finished off the spring season at 7-1-1 in the league in 10-1-1 overall, as they won their final nine games of the year.
