NCAA Championship Regional Brackets
ALLENDALE, Mich. – A pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference softball programs are just two wins away from a Midwest Region title following Thursday’s action in the NCAA Championship bracket.
Unfortunately, No. 4 seed Trevecca Nazarene saw its outstanding season come to a close with a morning defeat vs. No. 1 seed and region host Grand Valley State, before falling to familiar league opponent and No. 6 seed Ohio Dominican in the afternoon.
As it lines up, No. 1 Grand Valley State, No. 2 UIndy, No. 5 Hillsdale and No. 6 ODU, are still in contention in the double-elimination format.
Hillsdale and Ohio Dominican will battle it out during an elimination game on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. ET from Lakers Field.
The winner would face the loser of No. 1 GVSU and No. 2 UIndy, with both programs respectively making their way through the winner’s bracket. That elimination game is set for a 4 p.m. ET first pitch.
The Greyhounds had the offense clicking with a run-ruled game vs. ODU that resulted in the final score of 17-0. UIndy had a 12-0 lead through three innings and the Panthers, one day after defeating No. 3 seed and future Great Midwest member Northwood, had one hit vs. against three different pitchers.
ODU bounced back though on the shoulders of staff ace Sydney Long, who pitched a four-hit complete game gem against Trevecca Nazarene to keep the Panthers’ season alive. It was a rematch of the conference championship final when the Panthers finished an unbeaten run through the tourney bracket at Marathon Diamonds in Findlay.
The Trojans concluded the 2021 spring season with a record of 27-14 overall while capturing the conference regular season crown.
Hillsdale was idle on Thursday after the Chargers beat Northwood in an elimination game on Wednesday afternoon, day one of the regional.
