Men's Soccer Championship - Quarterfinals Recap

INDIANAPOLIS - The opening round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship tournament concluded on Saturday with Ohio Valley, Cedarville, Tiffin and Ohio Dominican advancing to the final four in Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio Dominican is set to host both the men's and women's semifinal and championship contests this week. No. 1 Ohio Valley and No. 5 Ohio Dominican will face off in the first semifinal match at 12 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 29. No. 2 Cedarville and No. 3 Tiffin will follow at 2:30 p.m. ET.

No. 8 Walsh vs. No. 1 Ohio Valley

An early goal by OVU's Juan Hoyos (assisted by Luiz Neto) proved to be all the Fighting Scots needed to remain undefeated and advance to the semifinals. OVU held Walsh scoreless through 90 minutes, defeating the Cavaliers 1-0. The Ohio Valley defense allowed Walsh only five shots (two on goal). 

No. 5 Ohio Dominican vs. No. 4 Lake Erie

ODU's River Allbaugh was the hero of the day, scoring both Panther goals to oust Lake Erie 2-0. Both of Allbaugh's goals came in the second period. The first was assisted by Shingai Nindi and the second came unassisted. The Panther defense held Lake Erie to only eight shots as ODU goalkeeper Harry Castella made five saves to hold off the Storm. 

No. 6 Findlay vs. No. 3 Tiffin

The Findlay defense struggled to contain the Dragons as they took 20 shots (10 on goal) to propel their way to the 4-2 win. Tiffin jumped out to a large lead in the first period (3-0), with Pero Mikulic scoring two of three goals. The Oilers made a comeback in the second period led by Nick McCracken's two goals, but a late goal by Tiffin's Caleb Gibbons sealed the win for the Dragons. 

No. 7 Kentucky Wesleyan vs. No. 2 Cedarville

The Yellow Jacket's offensive power was in full display as they stifled Kentucky Wesleyan, 6-1. Cedarville took 31 shots (13 on goal) while only allowing the Panthers six shots (1 on goal). Mark Rowan and Victor Pomelli led the Yellow Jackets with two goals a piece.
