INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of championship title contenders in their respective events from Findlay and Tiffin had impressive individual performances to earn Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
Track Athlete of the Week
Xavier Marable
Findlay
Sprints
Junior
Clayton, OH (Northmont HS)
Only one individual from the Great Midwest has clocked a provisional time in the 400-meter dash and that would be Marable, who made his outdoor debut at the Grand Valley State Al Owens Classic.
Marable was coming off an All-American performance at indoor nationals where he finished eighth in both the prelims and finals of the 400, his signature event.
In his first attempt of the outdoor campaign, he broke his own conference record with a time of 47.17, besting his 47.23 at the Mount Olive First Chance in 2019.
Marable also helped the Oilers finish second in the 4x100-meter relay and took home a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. He is currently ranked seventh in Division II on the list of provisional qualifiers (12 total).
Field Athlete of the Week
Nikolas Curtiss
Tiffin
Throws
Senior
Lancaster, OH (Lancaster HS)
Even though they are not easy, Curtiss in the throws cage makes automatic qualifying marks look that way with his sustained excellence in the shot put.
Curtiss booked another auto distance at 18.86m (61’ 10.5”) to win the event. Both he and teammate Ralph Casper have auto marks in the shot put, also doing so together at the Yellow Jacket Outdoor Invite in late March.
They did it again at the Reggie Thomas Classic, hosted by Tiffin, to earn first and second, respectively.
Curtiss was the national runner-up in shot put at the indoor championships and has competed in shot put three different times this spring.
