Softball Players of the Week (March 9)

INDIANAPOLIS - Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene earned Great Midwest Softball Players of the Week honors as announced Tuesday afternoon.

KWC picked up three wins last week to improve to 4-7 on the season. Trevecca Nazarene went undefeated on the week, picking up six wins in a row, to improve to 8-6 in the early season.

Sperlich led her team to a 6-0 week, batting .375 with 4 extra-base hits and 7 RBI on the week. 

In the first game of the week, Trevecca defeated Union (TN), 5-0. Sperlich was 1-3 at the plate, with a solo home run in the fifth inning and one walk. The Trojans beat Union in the second game of the double header, 2-1.

On Friday, the Trojans picked up wins over Grand Valley (8-6) and Purdue Northwest (9-0). Against Grand Valley, Sperlich walked twice and scored two runs. In the five-inning win over Purdue Northwest, Sperlich was a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate, with two doubles and a two-run homer. She finished with three RBI. 

TNU picked up wins over Davenport and Grand Valley on Saturday, winning both in eight innings, 4-3. Sperlich had one hit against Grand Valley, as she singled to center field in the first inning, scoring one run. 

On the year, Sperlich has a batting average of .212 and an on-base percentage of .409.

At the USI Spring Crossover, Kentucky Wesleyan picked up two wins over Purdue Northwest (3-2, 6-0) and a win over Davenport (8-4). The Panthers fell to Davenport (3-12) and Grand Valley (0-8). 

Hendrickson went 2-1 on the week with 19.2 innings pitched and 33 strike-outs. 

The right-hand pitcher picked up the 3-2 win over Purdue Northwest. She faced 24 batters in seven innings, striking out eight and not allowing any walks. She gave up seven hits and two earned runs. 

Hendrickson pitched seven innings to earn the 6-0 shutout win over Purdue Northwest on Sunday. She had a record-setting day as she struck-out 16 batters to set a conference single-game record. She only gave up one hit and walked on batter. 

The senior improved her record in the circle to 3-3 on the season. She has a 3.90 ERA through 37.2 innings pitched.
