INDIANAPOLIS - With conference competition set to begin this weekend, Hillsdale and Cedarville take home Great Midwest Softball Player of the Week honors announced Tuesday afternoon.

Malone leads the league at 6-1-1, with Cedarville and Walsh following behind at 10-6.

The Chargers went 4-1 on the week, sweeping the two-game series over Erskine and winning two of three games against Flagler. Senior infielder Sam Catron led Hillsdale as she batted .527 (10-19) on the week with seven RBI, including two doubles and two home runs. 

Against Erskine, Catron had the go-ahead or tying score in both games. In the first game of the Erskine series, Catron was 2-of-4 at the plate with a home run, scoring two runs. In the second game of the series, she had two hits including a double, batting in three runs. 

In a 6-4 win over Flagler, Catron added two hits, batting in one run and adding a stolen base. She recorded her second double of the week in a 9-1 win over Flagler. 

Catron has a batting average of .333 on the season with 23 hits on 69 at-bats.

The Yellow Jackets split double headers with Charleston and Saginaw Valley last week to move to 11-7 on the season. Freshman right-handed pitcher Casey Bertke went 1-1 on the week with a 0-1 loss to Charleston and a 7-1 win over Saginaw as she pitched two complete games.

On the week, Bertke pitched 15 innings, striking out 13 batters with a .47 ERA. She walked one batter and only allowed one earned run.

Against Charleston, she faced 27 batters, striking out six while allowing three hits. Bertke added seven more strikeouts against Saginaw, while allowing three hits and one run. 

Bertke is 5-4 in the circle with the second-best ERA among conference opponents (.56). She's pitched 50 innings and has struck out 37 batters so far this season.
