INDIANAPOLIS – On the heels of the NCAA Championship selection announcement, Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wrestling Athlete of the Week honors went to Tiffin as released on Tuesday.

The Dragons hosted Super Region III as student-athletes across several conferences competed for automatic and at-large selections to their weight class brackets.

The Great Midwest had a total of 14 national qualifiers that will take their talents to the next level in St. Louis later this month. Associate member and conference tournament champion Ashland led the way with six selections.

Wrestling Athlete of the Week
Nick Mason
Tiffin
197 Pounds
RS Senior
Shelby Township, MI (Utica HS)

Mason is on an absolute war path after pinning all of his opponents in the Heminger Center during Super Region III competition on Saturday.

Mason punched his ticket to nationals along with teammate Bryan LaVearn (165) and still reigns as the defending national champion at 197 with last year's NCAA Championship cancelled due to COVID-19.

He came in with a 7-1 record, including a conference championship by injury default over Ashland's Peter Abraham. Mason pinned three different opponents in relatively shortly order after receiving a first-round bye in the bracket as the top seed.

Mason recorded his first fall against Notre Dame's Joe Marcano in under two minutes at the 1:46 mark. He scored his next pin over conference counterpart Chris Droege from Lake Erie in 3:37.

In the Super Region final, Mason had another pin before the first period even ended with a 2:50 stick over West Liberty's Logan Kemp.

Mason is one of two 197 pound competitors going to nationals from the conference, joining Lake Erie's Chris Droege who scored an at-large selection by the national committee.
