INDIANAPOLIS – Teams are competing for points in the league standings as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week started with the first announcement on Monday afternoon.
Tiffin is just hot in every sport right now and that extends to the pitch with Dean Joseph’s Dragons receiving four conference points from a tie with Ohio Valley and a victory vs. Ursuline.
Co-preseason favorites Findlay and Walsh also won their season debuts along with Trevecca Nazarene and Ohio Dominican in very close finishes against Kentucky Wesleyan and Lake Erie.
Offensive Player of the Week
Olivia Frank
Findlay
Forward
Junior
Kettering, OH (Fairmont HS)
Frank is one the league’s premier goal scorers and after earning conference freshman of the year in 2018 and second team all-conference in 2019, appears ready to take the next step in her career progression.
The Oilers looked impressive in their 4-0 win against Malone to open the conference slate as the junior forward scored twice and assisted one goal.
Frank scored her first goal of the year a little over three minutes into regulation, which also went down as the game winner in a UF shutout effort.
She also scored the final goal for the Oilers, which happened to come relatively early in the second half in the 50th minute. Both of her goals were unassisted.
She was credited with the helper on an Elizabeth Talabec goal in the fifth minute as the Oilers rushed out to a 2-0 lead.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kim Nagel
Tiffin
Defense
Junior
Oregon, OH (Clay HS)
The Dragons are pursuing their first conference postseason appearance since joining the Great Midwest and are off to a terrific start in the first two games played.
Nagel has a combined 27 games played through her first two years as a member of the defense and the Dragons were stingy in playing 200 minutes of scoreless soccer against Ohio Valley and Ursuline.
Nagel and the back line only allowed five shots from Ohio Valley, a former conference champion and nationally-ranked program in recent history.
The Dragons put the clamps down hard on Ursuline by giving up just two shots to the Arrows. She was even credited with an assist on Emma Siler’s early first-half strike for the game’s lone goal.
