COLUMBUS, Ohio - The sixth-seeded Tiffin Dragons continue to prove that they're built for March, advancing to the Atlantic Regional Championship Game and the Sweet 16 following an incredible win over No. 2 seed Glenville State in the regional semifinals on Saturday night.
The Dragons trailed by as many as 18 in the semifinal contest before a fourth quarter run, led by no other than Aarion "Oni" Nichols, who drove in and finished at the buzzer to complete the come-from-behind win, 85-83.
Nichols led all scorers with 23 points and nine rebounds. The Dragons also showed off their depth in the post as starting forward Jada Tate added a 12 point, 13 rebound double-double and forward/centers Danielle Bradley and Jasmine Watts each reached double-figures off the bench.
Tiffin will face the No. 1 seed in the region in Charleston on Monday at 7 p.m. ET at the Greater Columbus Convention Center for the regional championship and a ticket to the Elite Eight.
In the other regional semifinal of the night, Walsh put up a solid effort against Charleston, leading for much of the first half but the top seed in the region proved to be too much for the Cavaliers down the stretch as they fell 79-73.
The duo of Mayci Sales and Sha Carter paced Walsh with 25 and 18 points, respectively, each adding eight rebounds.
Walsh finishes the season at 17-7, including the program's first regional win. The Cavaliers will look forward to making another postseason run next year as much of Walsh's core is anticipated to return.
