INDIANAPOLIS - The stage is set for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship semifinals as four teams emerged winners of Tuesday night’s quarterfinal matches.
No. 1 Hillsdale, No. 2 Walsh, No. 4 Cedarville and No. 6 Tiffin will advance to the final four set to be held on Friday, with the championship to follow on Saturday. Both the semifinal and final matches will be played at Hillsdale, as the Chargers are the top seed.
Friday’s semifinals features Hillsdale vs. Cedarville at 5:00 p.m. ET and Walsh vs. Tiffin at 7:30 p.m. ET in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena. The winners of Friday’s matches will play for the conference championship on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.
The No. 1 seed and regular season champion, Hillsdale, handled No. 8 Ursuline in three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-20). Karoline Shelton led the Chargers with 14 kills, while Alli Wiese had 28 digs.
No. 2 Walsh defeated No. 7 Trevecca in four sets (25-15, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16). Walsh’s Hallie Schroeder led all players with 21 kills and 14 digs.
No. 5 Ohio Dominican took No. 4 Cedarville to five sets, before the Yellow Jackets pulled away with the win (25-15, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13). Cedarville’s Liene Miller had 21 kills and four blocks on the night.
The only upset of the evening came as No. 6 Tiffin defeated No. 3 Findlay in four sets (25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22). Danielle Sargent had 16 kills and five blocks for the Dragons.
The all-conference team will be announced Thursday afternoon. The remainder of the conference tournament will be streamed on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
