INDIANAPOLIS – More provisional marks were met and two league records fell across the league as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week honors were announced on Tuesday morning.
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Kajsa Johansson
Hillsdale
Sprints
Senior
North Oaks, MN (Breck HS)
Johansson booked her name two different times in the conference all-time top 10 list, including a new Great Midwest record as part of the 4x400-meter relay team.
The Chargers hosted the Wide-Track Classic on Friday with Walsh also in attendance. Hillsdale also went to the Grand Valley State-hosted Snowdown Showdown.
Johansson sprinted her way to the top season time in the 60-meter dash in 7.60 seconds to win the event. She tied for ninth all-time in conference history with Tiffin’s Tatiana Cooper-Laylor, who ran 7.60 at the Silverston Invitational last indoor season.
In Division II this year, she ranks tied for eighth among all provisional qualifiers recorded through the weekend.
At the Snowdown Showdown, the Chargers combined for the No. 2 time in the country so far this season with a 4x400 performance of 3:48.47. Johansson anchored the event with Shura Ermakov, Dakota Stamm and Alanna O’Leary.
Three of those same four runners were the previous record holders of the 4x400 conference record of 3:49.38 at last year’s Doug Raymond National Qualifier.
Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Simone Green
Findlay
Jumps
Sophomore
Toledo, OH (Central Catholic HS)
For Green, the progression is notable through five completed events in the 2020-21 indoor season as she established a new conference record in the triple jump and provisionally qualified in the long jump.
The Oilers were competing with several other Great Midwest schools at the Tiffin Dragon Grand Prix over the weekend.
Green officially bested Tiffin’s Miaisha Blair for the new triple jump record with a distance of 11.73m (38’ 6”). Green won the event and it represented a new PR for the sophomore after recording an 11.51m earlier this year.
Green is also the only name other than Ursuline’s Janelle Perry in the top 10 of the long jump and she added her name for the second time following an effort of 5.76m (18’ 10.75”).
Green also set a PR in the event after going 5.75m as a freshman at the Findlay Alumni Classic.
