INDIANAPOLIS - In the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, released Wednesday afternoon, the Hillsdale Chargers jumped 10 places to No. 2 in the nation.

The Chargers were initially ranked No. 12 at the start of the season but moved up to No. 2 this week, the highest ranking in school and conference history.

In the February 3 poll, the Chargers received four first-place votes and totaled 1013 points.

Although they have yet to play a match this season, 2019 NCAA runner-up Nebraska-Kearney remains the favorite with 39 first-place votes and 1069 total points.

Hillsdale is off to a 4-0 start to the season, including a 3-1 win over Walsh, which was previously undefeated.

The Chargers returned most of their roster from their 2019 Great Midwest Championship and regional final run, including All-American middle hitter Allyssa Van Wienen, All-Region setter Lindsey Mertz and outside hitter Karoline Shelton. Shelton, a junior, is the reigning AVCA DII Player of the Week.

Hillsdale will take on No. 22-ranked opponent Gannon this Saturday while stepping briefly outside the conference schedule.

Four other Great Midwest programs are receiving votes and are listed on two or more ballots in the AVCA poll: Walsh (59 points), Tiffin (41 points), Findlay (25 points) and Cedarville (19 points).

The next AVCA Coaches Poll will be released February 10.
