Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Feb. 23)

2.23.21

INDIANAPOLIS – It is officially championship week as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week honors were presented to Hillsdale and Findlay on Tuesday.

The 2021 Great Midwest Indoor Track & Field Championships will be at the Doden Field House at Cedarville starting on Friday and going through Saturday. Due to COVID protocols, the event is closed to the public for in-person viewing and will be streamed in its entirety on the Great Midwest Digital Network in four different sessions.

Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Kajsa Johansson
Hillsdale
Sprints
Senior
North Oaks, MN (Breck HS)

Surprise, surprise – it’s Johansson once again as the speedster prepares to help the Chargers defend their conference indoor team title this weekend.

At the Hillsdale Tune-Up in the Biermann Center, Johansson was right at home as she won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.58.

Already this year, the senior has shattered the 200-meter dash record and was a part of a new 4x400-meter relay record (done twice). Johansson stacks up in a tie for eighth in 60-meter dash Great Midwest history.

Among all runners in Division II, she ranks ninth on the provisional qualifying list. The auto qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash in 7.45 seconds.

Johansson has been the conference track athlete of the week four different times already in 2020-21.

Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Morgan England
Findlay
Pole Vault
Sophomore
Bloomville, OH (Seneca East HS)

It was just destiny and a matter of not how, but when one of Findlay’s talented pole vaulters would become the new conference record holder.

The Oilers have been flirting with the previous conference record all season long, a mark that has held up relatively well since 2017 by Walsh’s Kaitlyn Barber (4.02m).

England is now the presumed favorite going into championship week among a host of provisional qualifiers around the league as she cleared 4.16m (13’ 7.75”) at the Grand Valley State Tune-Up on Friday.

That is good for fourth in Division II and she is one of seven auto qualifiers from around the country. The top mark is 4.17m so the sophomore is not far behind.

Just one week ago, England shared a PR with teammate Lindsey Kluesener at the Oiler Invite as both cleared 4.01m.
