Softball Players of the Week (Feb. 23)

INDIANAPOLIS - Hillsdale and Findlay earned Great Midwest Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, announced Tuesday afternoon. 

Despite the cold weather, softball season is in full swing as Ursuline, Findlay, Hillsdale, Ohio Dominican and Tiffin all competed in non-conference games last week. 

Findlay went 2-4 on the week, while Hillsdale was 2-3. Findlay's wins came over Upper Iowa and Illinois-Springfield. Hillsdale won against Lewis and Ashland.

At the Lewis Dome Invitational, Megan Fisher hit .438 (7-of-16) with six runs scored and two stolen bases. 

The right-handed pitcher also earned a win in the circle against Upper Iowa with seven strike-outs in seven innings, giving up only two hits and one run. Fisher also hit a double and scored one run in the 3-1 win. Later that day in a 4-3 win over Illinois-Springfield, the senior was 2-of-4 at the plate and scored one run. 

Fisher had another strong appearance at the plate in a 5-7 loss against Lewis. She was 3-of-3 and scored two runs, with one stolen base.

Hillsdale also played at the Lewis Dome Invitational, where Dana Weidinger picked up two wins in the circle.

Weidinger pitched all seven innings in a 2-1 win over Lewis. She faced 29 batters, striking out four, while giving up six hits and one earned run. She walked three batters. 

In an 11-3 win over Ashland, Weidinger pitched four innings to earn the win. She faced 18 batters, striking out four while giving up five hits and three earned runs. She walked one batter.

Weidinger took the circle once more, pitching six innings, in a 4-1 loss to Saginaw Valley. She faced 24 batters, striking out two while giving up four hits and two earned runs. She walked two batters. 

Weidinger has a winning record in the circle through the first couple weeks of the season, sitting at 3-2.
