Wimer was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Midwest Classic in Nicoson Arena, a large Division II event that featured a bracket consisting of 44 teams from 22 states descending into the Indianapolis area. Of those teams in the field, 17 were also nationally ranked and a total of 67 grapplers individually ranked were inserted throughout the 10 weight class brackets.

The senior Wimer captured a title at the 157 pounds weight class where the defending national champion has remained ranked No. 1 all season.

Wimer went 5-0 in his bracket as he defeated opponents from Ouachita Baptist, McKendree, Central Missouri, Gannon and Northern State, in order.

Wimer’s first action on the mat was a 30-second pin. The next two bouts were closer with finals as decisions. He then opened it up in the semifinals against Gannon’s Nick Young with a 16-4 major decision.

In the title matchup, Wimer scored a 9-2 decision over Northern State’s James Burks to finish his perfect weekend and push his season record to 11-0. He joined teammate Branson Proudlock (141) as Findlay wrestlers to earn a title at the Midwest Classic.

This is his second conference weekly honor of the current season.
