INDIANAPOLIS – In both instances, 110 minutes of perspiration wasn’t enough on the pitch as No. 4 Trevecca Nazarene and No. 6 Walsh both tied their opponents and advanced on penalty kicks in Saturday’s Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship quarterfinals.

The Trojans and Cavaliers both punched their ticket into the final four of the six-team bracket as No. 1 seed/regular season champion Ashland and No. 2 Cedarville were idle with opening-round byes.

Nashville was the first site to go final in the afternoon as Trevecca and No. 5 seed Ohio Dominican battled to end regulation in a 1-1 draw.

The shootout proceeded with blows exchanged as each team made five consecutive attempts from the line. Following the first miss, it was Trojans’ goalkeeper Delayna Holman coming through with the offensive heroics, sealing advancement with the decisive PK as TNU had the final edge by a count of 6-5.

The Trojans now prepare for Ashland on the Eagles’ home field for a semifinal clash next Thursday at 4 p.m. ET. Ashland is also ranked second in the Midwest Region rankings and are No. 15 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Walsh pulled the seeding upset by eliminating No. 3 seed Findlay, this year’s conference preseason favorite and the defending spring champion. The Oilers were regionally ranked for consecutive weeks before an untimely end for the year in the shootout.

The Cavaliers were good on their first three PK’s as Findlay missed all three attempts. Walsh is back in the semis after making the same round in the spring tournament.

Walsh will face No. 2 seed and regionally ranked Cedarville in next Thursday’s semifinal contest at 7 p.m. from Ferguson Field at Ashland.
