Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week (Nov. 3)

INDIANAPOLIS – Malone and Hillsdale were announced as recipients of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week honors following team dual performances in the fourth week of competition.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Fabian Loewe
Malone
Junior
Bannholz, Germany (Kolleg St. Blasien)
 
The Pioneers had a Saturday road adventure to Wooster as the Malone men and women both had team duals.
 
Loewe was a bright spot in the pool for the Pioneers with an individual win and as a member of a relay team.
 
Malone scored 80 points in the head-to-head competition. Loewe was part of the winning 200 medley relay race while contributing 11 points to MU’s team totals.
 
He also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.83 to score nine more points.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Leah Tunney
Hillsdale
Junior
Meqon, WI (Homestead HS)
 
The Chargers are undefeated in the water this year in head-to-head competition, most recently toppling Albion by a final score of 134-107.
 
Tunney was the winner of three separate events, the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke and member of the winning 400 freestyle relay grouping.
 
The junior standout was the only swimmer to clock under two minutes in the 200 freestyle (1:58.28) and also the only competitor to finish under a minute in the 100 backstroke (59.48).
 
This is the second time in 2021-22 Tunney has been tabbed for conference athlete of the week honors.
