NCAA Super Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS
– Following Week 9, Tiffin and Findlay represented the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in the Super Region 1 rankings for football that were released on Monday afternoon by the national committee.

The Oilers and Dragons are both tied for a share of first place in the conference standings at 4-1 while being ranked at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

This is the second release of the NCAA Super Region rankings that will ultimately place programs into the national championship bracket. Teams from the Great Midwest, Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Mountain East Conference (MEC) are all taken into consideration for 10 ranked positions.

Bentley remains in the top spot at No. 1 for the second week in a row. The PSAC is represented in the next three slots with Kutztown, Shepherd and Cal (Pa.) while Notre Dame (MEC) is also in the top five.

New Haven (NE-10) and Slippery Rock (PSAC) and Shippensburg (PSAC), are ranked six through eight in order to round out this week’s Super Region 1 rankings.

Tiffin is gathering a head of steam towards the end of the season, currently in the midst of a four-game win streak. The Dragons came out on top in a big matchup against Ohio Dominican that split a four-way tie for the lead in the standings.

Senior QB Nick Watson has quietly put up league-leading numbers while utilizing a number of playmakers around him including WR’s Anthony Lynn and Jalen Thomas with a balanced stable of running backs paced by Darius Pinnix.

Tiffin is 7-2 with road games left in the 2021 campaign at Walsh in Week 10 and at Findlay in Week 11.

By the numbers, Findlay’s strength of schedule ranks among the toughest in Super Region 1 with games against No. 1 nationally ranked Ferris State and Lindenwood, rated No. 5 out of Super Region 3. The Oilers are also 3-2 against opponents with a .500 record or above.

Findlay pitched a shutout in Week 9 over Walsh, 49-0, and improved to 6-3 overall. The Oilers have home games remaining on the docket albeit tough ones in Week 10 vs. Ashland and Week 11 to close out the regular season against Tiffin. With 89 tackles, Grey Brancifort is tied for second in the conference while Ervin Besingi is among the league’s best in sacks and tackles for a loss.

One of the top performing conference teams is also in play for a postseason America’s Crossroads Bowl Game against an opponent from the Great Lakes Valley Conference in early December in Hobart, Ind. This would be the second bowl game showcasing the talent between the two leagues after Ohio Dominican and Truman State met in the inaugural matchup in 2019.
