Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Nov. 16)

11.16.21

INDIANAPOLIS - For their stellar postseason play, a pair of all-conference stalwarts were recognized for the final selection of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week as announced Tuesday.

Offensive Player of the Week
Bailey Clark
Ashland
Forward
Junior
Doylestown, OH (Chippewa HS)

On Saturday, Clark had a game that won’t be forgotten in the Ashland program folklore as the Eagles carve out memories early into their conference membership.

Ashland completed the regular season and championship title sweep in its first attempt, winning Thursday’s semifinal contest against No. 4 Trevecca Nazarene and defeating No. 2 Cedarville in overtime.

Clark was a first team all-conference selection by the coaches for her impact made in the regular season. The junior forward came through with some big moments with the golden goal in overtime and an assist for three points.

Clark drilled the game winner just outside of the box past the outstretched arms of Great Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year Brooke Ackley to break a 1-1 tie. She also helped the Eagles get on the board early in the second half on Hannah Mueller’s scoring play.

Clark has seven goals and three assists for a total of 17 points in the 2021 campaign, numbers that rank fourth in the conference.

Defensive Player of the Week
Tori Baker
Ashland
Defense
Senior
Wadsworth, OH (Wadsworth HS)

Like her teammate Clark, Baker was also an all-conference performer in the GLIAC and voted to the first team all-conference list this fall in the Great Midwest.

Baker also collected some additional hardware by being Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year, a tough honor to receive in a sport that has rapidly improved over the past few years.

In addition to being a tough defender, the senior can also put the ball in the net as evidenced by her five goals this season. She scored that fifth goal on a PK, the lone goal and game winner to lift the Eagles in the semifinals.

Baker has played and started in all possible 17 games for Ashland this year as the program prepares for a NCAA Championship bid in the Midwest Regional.
