INDIANAPOLIS – The six playoff qualifiers for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship tournament bracket have been announced as the regular season came to an end on Saturday around the league.
Three teams from the North Division and three teams from the South Division are represented in this year’s tournament field.
The quarterfinals start on Tuesday before the final four teams remaining will compete inside Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena on the campus of Hillsdale College for the semifinals and championship on Friday-Saturday.
The winner of the conference tournament will receive an automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional.
The final day of the regular season was relatively quiet with all six programs having clinched their postseason destination about a week ago. Seeding could have changed based on several outcomes on Saturday but going into the weekend, the bracket was set for the most part.
The individual divisional champions, Hillsdale from the North, and Ashland from the South, each receive first-round byes.
The next four teams with the best conference winning percentage received tournament bids as well, regardless of divisions. For seeding purposes, the divisions crossed over with Trevecca Nazarene being placed with No. 3 North and Walsh having the title of No. 3 South.
Hillsdale completed another undefeated regular season run through the conference standings and every year since the Chargers have been a conference member, they have finished celebrating with tournament trophy. The Chargers are also ranked third in the Midwest Region rankings and 18th in the AVCA Top-25 Poll.
Hillsdale has made it four straight conference tournament victories and has its sights set on number five. Teams are looking to derail their path to that fifth straight crown as Ashland joined the party for its first year as a member institution.
The Eagles earned a division title with a 13-3 record in the conference standings. Ashland had to make early season adjustments with several impact players missing time at various points, but will get to take home a well-deserved regular season trophy to add to the shelf.
Walsh and No. 2 North Division seed Findlay will serve as the quarterfinal host sites on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET from North Canton and Findlay, respectively. The winner of TNU/Walsh will face Hillsdale on Friday at 5 p.m. ET and the winner of Findlay/No. 3 South Division Ohio Dominican would meet Ashland at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The championship matchup is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The all-conference team and individual awards as voted by the coaches will also be announced on Thursday afternoon prior to the semifinal contests.
