Great Midwest Football Preview – Week 11

11.12.21

INDIANAPOLIS – The regular season finale is here for all eight teams and postseason implications at the highest level are on the line as a Great Midwest Athletic Conference football champion will be crowned on Saturday in Week 11.

Every program will be looking to conclude the regular season on a high note as coaches prepare to cast their ballots for the all-conference team and individual awards.

After the 2020 fall season was delayed into the spring of 2021, getting back on the field with the leaves turning colors in the crisp autumn weather has been a welcome sight in a return to normalcy.

Tiffin and Findlay have the championship showdown on Saturday at Donnell Stadium. Both the Dragons and Oilers are ranked in Super Region 1. Both programs are 5-1 in the conference standings. And both teams are ready for a rematch from this spring’s conference title matchup that went in favor of Tiffin at Frost-Kalnow Stadium.

The winner could be ticketed as one of the eight teams from Super Region 1 in the NCAA Championship bracket and the loser could potentially be a participant in the second annual America’s Crossroads Bowl depending on how the remaining dominos fall.

The loser of the Tiffin and Findlay matchup will be tied in the standings with the winner of the Ohio Dominican and Hillsdale battle with a 5-2 record. The conference would defer to the tiebreaking policy spelled out in the sport operating codes to break that tie for a bowl game bid against an opponent from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

The 2019 America’s Crossroads Bowl Game in Hobart, Ind., featured Ohio Dominican from the Great Midwest against Truman State from the GLVC. If Ohio Dominican wins on Saturday vs. Hillsdale, the loser of the Findlay/Tiffin game would still own the tiebreaker. However, if Hillsdale comes out on top over Ohio Dominican, the Chargers would have the tiebreaker over Findlay by virtue of a head-to-head win earlier this year.

Ashland and Kentucky Wesleyan will kick things off from Steele Stadium in Owensboro as both programs look to finish strong. It has been a frustrating year with the Eagles bitten by the injury bug at multiple position while the Panthers’ narrative has been super close in several big games, but just not quite enough to get the outcome they desire.

Following the conclusion of the Great Midwest Men’s Soccer Championship game at Jack Britt Stadium between Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican, the Storm football program will take the field against Walsh for a scheduled 6 p.m. ET start.

Lake Erie is looking to finish the season over .500 while Walsh has its sights set on the program’s first conference win of the fall.
