Volleyball Players of the Week – North Division (Oct. 4)

INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of 3-0 weeks out of the North Division from Walsh and Hillsdale led to Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week honors for both respective programs on Monday.

Maczuzak led all players in the conference in points and kills per set over the past week of competition, a span where the Cavaliers went 3-0 in conference play.
 
Walsh surged to 8-6 overall after beating divisional rival Malone on the road and South Division opponents Ohio Dominican and Cedarville at home.
 
In 12 sets, the redshirt junior tallied 64 total kills and hit .329. She averaged 5.33 kills per set on 155 attack attempts and recorded a career-high 27 kill against Cedarville on Saturday, the most in a single match around the league this fall.
 
In the four-set win against Ohio Dominican, she pounded down 23 kills, a match high while hitting .317. In three sets vs. Malone, she finished with another match-high total, this time with 14 kills.
 
Maczuzak earned her second conference offensive player of the week award for the current season. She is currently ranked sixth in the league in kills per set and seventh in points per set.

The Chargers have reeled off 11 straight wins and after defeating Findlay, remain the lone unbeaten in the conference standings while taking the lead in the North Division.
 
Van Wienen is the only player from the conference to average over a block per set and currently ranks 15th nationally among the Division II statistical leaders.
 
Van Wienen averaged 1.37 blocks per set over Hillsdale’s most recent stretch, a dominant string of shutouts all on the road at Findlay, Lake Erie and Ursuline. The win against Findlay had Hillsdale at 7-0 in the conference standings.
 
Van Wienen’s presence up front has helped Hillsdale lead the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .131. She is also ranked sixth in hitting percentage and eighth in points per set.
