Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week (Oct. 27)

INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay and Hillsdale collected Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week honors following strong performances during duals over the last week of competition.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Daniel Garcia
Findlay
Sophomore
Bucaramanga, Colombia (Instituo Paulo Freire)
 
It was a historic outing in the pool for the Oilers as the men defeated nationally ranked No. 20 Saginaw Valley State by a close margin of 120-17 in the team scoring. It went down as the program’s first victory in school history over the Cardinals.
 
Garcia was phenomenal in contributing to the team points while recording three times that went down in the top 10 of the conference record books.
 
The sophomore forged ahead for victories in the 400 IM (4:06.12) and added a win in the 100 breaststroke (56.20). He was also part of the winning 200 medley relay grouping with a time of 1:31.36.
 
Garcia clocked the eighth-best 400 IM time, eighth-best 100 breaststroke time and the 200 medley relay time goes down as the fourth best in conference history.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week

The Chargers have spread out the wealth early in the 2021-22 season as the third different member of their team was recognized for weekly honors.
 
Hillsdale defeated No. 17 ranked Hope (Division III) and Ohio Northern in a home triangular meet by team scores of 165-128 and 211-63.
 
Clifford won all four events she competed in which included the 200 butterfly (2:08.83), the 100 butterfly (59.42) and was part of the winning 200 and 400 medley relays.
 
The freshman registered a new pool record in the 200 butterfly and it was the eighth-fastest time in program history.
