INDIANAPOLIS – Four different NCAA super regions for men’s soccer released their first round of rankings on Wednesday afternoon with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference affiliated with Super Region 3.
The league is looking for strong representation in the NCAA Championship bracket once again after qualifying four teams in the 2019 season.
Super Region 3 is comprised of teams in consideration from the Great Midwest, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and programs from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA)/Great American Conference (GAC).
A total of 12 teams from the above conferences are ranked with 10 earning automatic qualifier spots or at-large selections into the national tournament field.
Teams are ranked in order by the regional advisory committee and verified by the national committee using various criteria across the board.
Ohio Dominican, Cedarville and Lake Erie, were all in the top 12 of the Super Region 3 rankings and have already clinched a postseason tournament seed at this point in the regular season.
Coincidentally, all three of those teams are ranked in that same order occupying spots 5-7 with strong resumes compiled in the fall.
Ohio Dominican’s strength of schedule has stacked up against Super Region 3’s best in the top tier while the Panthers have put together an 8-3-3 overall record.
Lake Erie was the No. 1 seed in the 2019 NCAA Championship and are on the prowl again with a 9-2-0 conference record and leading the standings with 27 points. Cedarville is right on LEC’s heels with a head-to-head matchup looming in the home stretch of the regular season with 25 points and an 8-2-1 Great Midwest mark.
LEC’s Ayden Von Essen and ODU’s Shingai Nindi have both been offensive catalysts for their program while Andy Volk and Pedro Alavares each have nine points to anchor a balanced Cedarville attack.
The defenses also align eerily similar with Cedarville and Lake Erie allowing just 13 goals in 14 games and ODU has allowed only 15 in 14 contests.
